Emerald Green Arborvitae

The Emerald Green Arborvitae proves to be a versatile and visually appealing evergreen tree. It particularly excels in smaller residential areas where space is at a premium. Its defining characteristic lies in its dense, vivid green foliage, comprised of scale-like leaves that form luxurious, emerald green sprays.

This evergreen is a favored choice for creating hedges, privacy screens, and windbreaks. Its compact stature and slender growth pattern make it an ideal fit for modest yards and confined spaces. An added advantage is its minimal maintenance requirements, needing only infrequent pruning to preserve its desired form and size.

Much like other Arborvitae species, the Emerald Green Arborvitae typically exhibits resistance to common pests and diseases, bolstering its reliability in landscaping endeavors.

Here are some key characteristics:

  1. Size: Emerald Green Arborvitae typically reaches a height of 15 to 20 feet with a width of 4 to 5 feet. Its slender, upright growth habit gives it a sleek, columnar shape. You can trim these to shape how you like throughout the years.
  1. Hardiness: This tree is well-suited for zones 2 to 7, making it adaptable to a wide range of climates meaning they do exceptionally well in the Northeast. They will get dormant in the winter and then kick back up again come spring time.
  1. Landscaping: Emerald Green Arborvitae is a popular choice for hedging, privacy screens, or as a specimen plant in landscaping. Its compact size and narrow growth make it ideal for small yards or tight spaces while Green Giants are better suited for bigger properties.

Overall, the Emerald Green Arborvitae is a versatile and attractive evergreen tree that is prized for its elegant appearance and suitability for various landscape applications, particularly in smaller residential settings where space is limited.

WAYS TO PLANT

Single Hedgerow

The Emerald Green Arborvitae should be planted 3 feet apart.

Double Stack

This method provides for a quicker and more densely packed screen than planting in a straight row. It involves making a double row, with plants growing in the ground diagonally to one another. The rule of thumb here is to space your plants 3-5 feet apart horizontally with around a 3-5 foot gap between the two rows.

Emerald Green Arborvitae Care

Planting Dig hole a few inches wider and a few inches deeper than size of root ball. Replant with dug up dirt and make sure to pack in tightly avoiding any air pockets. Leave root ball on slight incline above ground to avoid drowning when watering..

Sunlight Emerald Green Thujas grow best in full sun (6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day), but they can withstand partial shade (afternoon sun is best in this case).

Watering Water your new tree 1-2 times per week for the first month, then once a week. Water more frequently if it is dry and hot. Water your tree by placing a water hose at its base for 20 seconds. Emerald Green Thujas will establish after 6 months and regular rainfall will provide sufficient watering.

Pruning During the course of the year, you will see brown tips on the tree. This will happen after planting and in winter months. This tree is prune friendly meaning gently pluck the brown tips off one by one. This will promote better growth for the tree and kill off the dead stems. Thus happens after planting due to a transfer shock it may cause which is completely normal. This will also happen in the winter due to the lower temperatures causing the tree to go dormant until spring time

Fertilizing Use a general evergreen and shrub fertilizer in the Spring to support the growth of your tree.
